We headed up on Thursday morning with our designated driver... Thanks Patty!! The other three of us had projects in our laps and there is no telling how long it will take to pick up the threads and beads that managed to find their way into the already dirty floorboard. We stopped for a few hours in Indianapolis at the new IKEA and began to fill up the car that had seats removed for mega shopping.
Consider Boutique in Louisville, Kentucky!
We started Saturday at the Textile Discount Outlet.
I bought fabric there once when I had the store... but the fabric isn't why I wanted to go back. I had also purchased random buttons years before, where I actually sat in the middle of the floor and put them in my bag. The hunt for the bargain was calling and I was feeling the need to refill my stash.
Checkout all this leather stacked up in boxes. So many ideas but I still have so much in the studio to work with.... hmmmm.
So Chicago in Winter makes no sense for a girl who hates the cold... and for the four of us to decide to walk from our warm Hampton Inn Loyola hotel to the Heartland Cafe in the freezing, slick snow was crazy! I was in front, cold of course, but I couldn't resist this picture of the ladies trying to read a map in the snow.
How many ladies does it take to read a map?
Follow me ladies... I have Google Maps!!
Google maps can be a girl's best friend when it's COLD outside!!
I love the artwork that was on display in the yard. Unfortunately, I didn't write down where this display was. Can anyone tell me what yard this is in?
The wall below lists all the artists who worked on it. There were the main artists and the contributing artists who, together, brought it to life. It sure would have been fun to watch them work!
The Heartland Cafe was worth the walk. It's a down to earth inviting place with lots of organic and vegetarian options. This small 'farm to table' restaurant has been in business since 1976 and just recently changed ownership. They're doing good stuff in their neighborhood. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was delicious. For me one of the highlights of the trip was this newly found treasure.
They served breakfast at the Hampton Inn Loyola, and we did eat there before heading out to get my breakfast of champions... but I finally met someone who eats a breakfast as crazy as I do! Whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a little raisin bran tops my chocolate chip cookies and Dr Pepper, any day!! Now, I do have to confess that when I went through to get my Dr Pepper and TWO cookies, it did expand to 8 cookies by the time the others placed their orders. So.... breakfast was definitely not our most healthy meal!!
We did fill the car and got it all packed up and ready to travel home much to the amusement of the Bell Staff. So glad these four crazy women could be so entertaining. LOL!
If you are looking for a good place to stay in Chicago, outside of the hustle and bustle, this is it! Great prices, updated clean rooms, and the staff was over the top friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.
